HoYoverse's Genshin Impact, which launched back in 2020, has held our collective attention with its slick visuals and, frankly, addictive gameplay loop. Thanks to a steady stream of updates, a growing global footprint, and a thriving scene of offline events, the community remains as robust as ever. Now, as the game hits its five-year milestone, HoYoverse is dropping the 6.0 update, 'Songs of the Moon: Introduction'. The update centers on the phantasmagorical landscape of 'Nordcry'. I have taken a deep dive into what this place holds and what sort of adventures await you there.

The new region, 'Nordcry', arrives with the 6.0 update. You can access it via teleport waypoints once you have cleared the Mondstadt Archon Quest Prologue: Act III 'Song of the Dragon and Freedom' and reached Adventure Rank 28. If you have already finished Liyue's Archon Quest Chapter I: Act III 'A New Star Approaches', you are all set to dive straight into the Nordcry Archon Quest.

Tucked away to the north of Natlan—the sixth major nation defined by war and fire—lies the Snezhnaya autonomous region of Nordcry, a land touched by the pure light of the moon. The entire region is infused with a primordial elemental energy known as 'Lunar Force', which naturally draws in various factions and curious souls. This 'Lunar Force' is exclusive to Nordcry, and you will find it essential for both navigation and combat.

For instance, if you harvest 'Lunar Force' near the Moon-Swallow Grass found in the field, you can harness the power of a unique elemental lifeform called 'Lunaspirit' to glide across small air currents. Furthermore, this energy influences combat for both allies and foes. Certain characters can trigger a 'Moonlight Reaction' when exposed to this force, promising a fresh layer of complexity to your encounters.

The update introduces two new 5-star characters and one 4-star addition. First up is the headliner, 'Rauma', the Lion who recites the moon of the Frost-Moon Child, appearing as a 5-star Dendro Catalyst user.

Rauma shifts into a half-beast form during exploration to traverse the terrain at high speed. In the thick of battle, Rauma converts the party's 'Bloom' reactions into 'Lunar Bloom' reactions. This generates 'Dendro Dew', a combat resource that deals Lunar Bloom damage and has a chance to crit. Additionally, Rauma periodically deals AoE Dendro damage and shreds the Dendro and Hydro resistance of enemies, providing a significant buff to the entire team.

Next is 'Flint', a 5-star Electro Polearm user who has spent an eternity as a warden protecting the freedom and peace of Nordcry. During exploration, Flint can hear the whispers of the 'Frenzy Hunt'. In combat, Flint unleashes the standard Elemental Burst to land multiple, heavy 'Lunar Electro' strikes in quick succession. If you prefer a faster combat tempo, you can use the Elemental Skill to trigger high-frequency special bursts at a lower energy cost, allowing for a variety of tactical setups.

Finally, we have 'Aino', a 4-star Hydro Claymore user and a genius engineer. You can add Aino to your party for free by progressing through the new Nordcry Archon Quest. Aino brings a unique duck-shaped combat machine, the 'Hard-Punching Duck', to help you hone your combat skills.

The 6.0 update pushes the level cap for character growth to 100. A new resource called 'Ownerless Constellation' has been introduced, which you obtain when you pull a 5-star character you have already maxed out. By consuming one 'Ownerless Constellation' on a level 90 character, you can raise the cap to 95; using a second one pushes it to 100.

A new 'Base' feature is also being added. This is a space where you can share daily life with your companions. You might find yourself reading the Frost-Moon Child legends with Rauma, visiting the Krumkake Workshop with Aino, or listening to the warden's tales at Flint's house, offering a variety of intimate experiences.
