Grey State Studio (formerly Aurora Studio), the team that proved their mettle with the MMORPG Moonlight Blade, has finally pulled back the curtain on their latest project.

On the 15th, Tencent Games officially unveiled their upcoming tactical loot shooter, 'Rules of Engagement: The Grey State'.

Slated for a 2026 PC release, 'Rules of Engagement: The Grey State' blends class-based RPG mechanics with a supernatural horror setting. You and up to two mates will step into the boots of 'Striders', elite agents tasked with infiltrating 'The Grey State'—an unstable dimension positively crawling with monstrosities and otherworldly relics.

Each Strider navigates the fray via a biomechanical body, remotely controlled by their consciousness. Within this 'horror-verse'—a term the developers are quite fond of—you will encounter beasts plucked straight from classic horror flicks and urban legends. It is a high-stakes PvPvE affair; you drop in with basic kit, hunt monsters, and scavenge for better gear before the clock runs out.

The endgame brings a tense countdown and a classic dilemma: do you bank your loot and escape, or gamble it all by diving back into the fray for rarer alien relics? At launch, you can choose from 'Sledge', who uses a shield and hammer to smash lines; 'Pyro', the master of fire and gas; 'Phantom', who strikes from the shadows; and a mysterious fourth class shrouded in secrecy.

The team at Grey State Studio told us, "Under the motto 'Chart the Uncharted', we are exploring the empty spaces in the shooter genre and pushing the boundaries of tactical gameplay."
