Avalanche Software is on a recruitment drive. Given that they are specifically prioritizing developers with multiplayer expertise, speculation is growing regarding the potential inclusion of multiplayer in the next Hogwarts Legacy installment.

Avalanche Software recently posted a new opening on their official website for a Senior Software Engineer dedicated to a new online multiplayer RPG. They are looking for at least five years of professional experience and a track record of shipping a large-scale multiplayer online title. Mastery of Unreal Engine's networking and multiplayer capabilities is, predictably, a mandatory requirement.

The successful candidate will be tasked with designing and implementing the game's backend infrastructure. Their remit covers everything from player data management and matchmaking to lobby systems and server infrastructure. Notably, they have expressed a preference for candidates with experience in anti-cheat solutions and Unreal Engine’s state-of-the-art replication system, Iris. This suggests they are aiming for a robust, full-scale online environment rather than just a minor add-on.

While the listing doesn't explicitly link the role to a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, we do have some breadcrumbs to follow. Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels previously noted that at a Bank of America conference last September, he stated that "a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy will be one of our biggest priorities in the next couple of years." It is highly probable that this project is indeed the follow-up, and if so, we can certainly expect some form of multiplayer component to be included in the successor.
