Following its pre-test launch on the 7th, Battlefield 6 smashed past 330,000 concurrent players on Steam in just 24 hours. The community seems to think the series has finally found its mojo again, with early sentiment leaning heavily positive.

The open beta phase is scheduled for two windows: August 9 to 10, and August 14 to 17. However, the pre-test held from the 7th to the 8th—accessible only via Twitch drop codes—was a sign of things to come. Within just 40 minutes of going live, the title surged past 250,000 concurrent players. The numbers didn't plateau there, eventually peaking at 334,549. Keep in mind, this figure excludes those playing via the EA app, so the actual player count is likely even higher.

Battlefield 6 marks a return to the classic modern warfare setting that defined titles like Battlefield 3 and 4. The development team is doubling down on fan-favourite mechanics: the class system is back, alongside destructible environments, dragging downed allies, vehicle hanging, and artillery strikes. While the Steam reviews aren't live yet, the chatter on Reddit and other international hubs suggests the adjustments are hitting the mark. Players seem particularly impressed by the overhauled sound design and the fact that the developer actually listened to the criticisms surrounding Battlefield 2042. Better yet, the game’s optimization is drawing quiet praise.

It isn't all plain sailing, though. Some players have pointed out that the current map feels a bit cramped, leaning more into an infantry-focused experience reminiscent of Call of Duty’s Ground War. There is also a consensus that the time-to-kill (TTK) is currently too fast, leaving little room for counter-play, which will certainly require some balancing tweaks.
