World of Tanks is bracing itself for what is being billed as the largest update in its storied history.

Wargaming revealed 'World of Tanks 2.0' on the 19th (local time) during the Opening Night Live showcase at Gamescom 2025. For those unacquainted with the calendar, Opening Night Live serves as the high-octane curtain-raiser for the world's largest gaming trade show.

Unveiled alongside a fresh trailer, the World of Tanks 2.0 update is scheduled for launch on September 1st. The headline additions include Tier 11 tanks, a complete overhaul of the hangar and UI, and a narrative-driven PvE mode. The developers are also promising a total rebalancing of hundreds of existing vehicles and a next-gen matchmaking system. These new Tier 11 tanks, which debut with 16 variants in total, come with unique special abilities and a brand-new progression system.

The hangar is also undergoing a transformation, evolving into a dedicated tank factory where you can assemble, outfit, and deploy your steel beasts into battle at a moment's notice. The overall gameplay experience is receiving a polish too, with significant improvements promised for queue times, team balancing, and a reconstructed matchmaking algorithm.

Furthermore, a new PvE event will anchor the arrival of the Tier 11 tanks, allowing you to test-drive these machines on new battlefields. Expect an audio overhaul as well, featuring more authentic tank sounds recorded from real-life vehicles, clearer combat audio, and an enhanced soundscape designed to bring the heat of the battlefield to life.
