League of Legends (LoL) is wrapping up its 2025 season. Adorned with Noxus and Ionia themes, the 2025 season certainly made a splash, introducing new systems like Atakan and 'Show of Force', alongside thematic visual updates that went down a treat with many players.

Naturally, there’s a fair bit of buzz about what’s coming next year. We managed to get an early look at the 2026 season changes during a media briefing held on the 20th, courtesy of the Riot Games development team.

First off, the pillars of the 2025 season—Atakan, Rose of Blood, and Show of Force—are being scrapped. It seems they took the feedback that 'there were simply too many objectives to juggle' to heart. Consequently, the Baron spawn time is moving up to the 20-minute mark. To keep things spicy, the health, armour, and magic resist of epic jungle monsters like the Void Grubs and Dragons are getting a boost, demanding a bit more caution when you're out objective hunting.

Turrets are getting a fresh mechanic dubbed 'Overgrowth'. As time ticks on, turrets accumulate stacks, and attacking them consumes these stacks to deal bonus damage. Furthermore, the second and third turrets are getting defensive plating, meaning that classic tower gold will now be doled out in three stages. Chris Roberts, Product Lead, explained, "We wanted to widen the strategic choices in the mid-to-late game, designing it so you can keep pulling in gold even while you're busy with small-scale split pushing."

Position-specific quests are also joining the fray, offering unique perks upon completion. For instance, top laners can snag an XP boost and the 'Teleport' spell. If you've already got Teleport, it’s upgraded to 'Empowered Teleport'. Meanwhile, junglers get an enhanced 'Smite' plus increased gold and XP from camps, mid laners enjoy faster recalls and boot upgrades, supports gain exclusive items and a Sightstone, and AD carries earn extra gold alongside a seventh item slot.

Then there’s the new 'Fairy Light' vision system. It’s a handy feature that highlights specific spots to suggest where you should be planting those wards. It’s all about making vision more accessible and intuitive, especially for those split-pushers looking to secure ground. Chris Roberts added, "It’s also meant to take the pressure off supports and help teams that are behind get back into the vision game more easily."

Expect minions to hit the lane earlier, too. From next season, they’ll spawn at 30 seconds, a 35-second jump from the current 1 minute 5 seconds. Respawn times are also accelerating to 25 seconds after 14 minutes of game time, and 20 seconds after 30 minutes. To balance this, the number of minions per wave is being dialled back. Nick Frizia, Season Game Designer, explained, "By trimming the downtime in the early game, we expect the overall pace to quicken."

The ranked system is getting a tweak to tackle matchmaking times. Players who opt for 'Fill' will receive a 'Shield of Valor'. If you achieve a C-grade or higher in a match where you were auto-filled, you earn this perk; winning grants double LP, while losing shields you from LP loss. The goal is to nudge players toward auto-fill to solve those pesky long queue times caused by population imbalances in specific roles.

On top of that, there are nine new items and a revamped quick-play mode on the way. You can get a sneak peek at all these season changes on the PBE server starting from the 2nd.
