The classic point-and-click adventure game 'Deponia' is currently being given away for free on Steam until 2:00 AM on the 17th.

Deponia is the inaugural title of the series, originally launched back in 2012. Set on the eponymous trash-strewn planet, it follows the exploits of Rufus, a rather moody and capricious protagonist, and his fateful encounter with Goal, a woman from the upper echelons of society.

Our down-and-out hero, Rufus, spends his days dreaming of escaping his rubbish-filled home to reach Elysium, the floating utopia of the elite. When a high-class woman named Goal falls from the sky, Rufus notices his uncanny resemblance to her husband and hatches a rather cheeky scheme to take his place.

Visually, the game leans into high-resolution 2D graphics to nail that distinct, slapstick charm. It evokes fond memories of the 'Monkey Island' series with its bizarre cast and quirky sense of humour, though be warned: it carries the steep difficulty curve typical of point-and-click adventures from that era.

The Deponia saga eventually spanned four titles in total. The second instalment, 'Chaos on Deponia', arrived in late 2012, followed by 'Goodbye Deponia' in October 2013.
