Windrose, a standout from the recent Steam Next Fest, finally dropped on the store on the 14th. It has already managed to topple Crimson Desert to claim the number one spot on Steam’s global top sellers list, boasting a 'Very Positive' reception from players.

Windrose is the debut project from indie outfit Kraken Express, an open-world PvE survival action RPG set in a fictionalized Golden Age of Piracy during the 1700s. It was already a hot prospect back in February during Steam Next Fest, consistently topping charts and wishlist tallies. That pre-launch hype has translated into a solid debut, clinching the top spot globally and smashing through the 60,000 Concurrent Players mark.

The gameplay loop sees you hopping between sea and land. You’ll be building and customising your own ships for naval cannon fire and boarding parties, while combat on terra firma relies on well-timed parries and dodges against incoming foes. There is also a survival and settlement management layer, allowing you to establish bases and recruit NPCs to automate your production lines.

Early player sentiment is sitting at 'Very Positive' (with 2,541 reviews, 88% positive). Many comparisons are being drawn to the survival and building mechanics of Valheim, with plenty of chatter about how well it blends the naval combat style reminiscent of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Even as an Early Access title, players are noting that the frame rate holds up surprisingly well against the graphical fidelity, and the sound design really sets the mood. It isn't all plain sailing, though; some players are finding the early-game combat quite punishing, and the melee feedback feels a bit limp. Server instability is also causing some hiccups for multiplayer right now.

Elsewhere, Pragmata has climbed to second place. With a solid 86 on Metacritic pre-launch, the anticipation is clearly building as the release date looms. Replaced, which hit the store on the same day as Windrose, took third. It’s been turning heads with its 1980s cyberpunk aesthetic and currently holds a 'Very Positive' rating.

In the daily peak Concurrent Players chart, Overwatch climbed to 14th place with 92,617 players, thanks to the new season bump. Meanwhile, Arc Raiders hasn't exactly plummeted, but it has dipped below the 100,000 mark for the first time since launch, settling at 95,910.
