Cyberpunk 2077, a title that had a rather chaotic launch back in 2020, has officially surpassed the 40 million copies mark globally.

CD Projekt took to their official Korean X account on the 3rd to announce this milestone. It is quite the turnaround for a game that began its life in 2020 plagued by performance bugs, global refunds, and emergency patches—taking six years to reach such a massive achievement.

Cyberpunk 2077 follows the journey of the mercenary V through the unforgiving sprawl of 'Night City'. By relentlessly sticking to post-launch support and consistent updates, the developers managed to completely flip the initial public sentiment on its head. This dedication has cultivated a loyal fanbase, allowing the franchise to branch out into various media, including animation and novels. Just this past 29th, the company announced that the animated series 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' is set to premiere on Netflix this autumn.

Michal Nowakowski, Joint CEO of CD Projekt, noted, "The 40 million copies sold figure demonstrates the incredible, enduring power of Cyberpunk 2077 and proves CD Projekt's strength in creating high-quality, immersive stories that keep players returning for years." He added, "This achievement serves as a solid foundation for future projects based on the universe, including the upcoming release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 this autumn."

Meanwhile, another jewel in the CD Projekt crown, 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt', previously hit the 30 million mark in 2021, six years after its May 2015 launch. More recently, the company reported that the title has reached 65 million copies sold, proving its evergreen status.
