Variety reported on the 29th (local time) that Netflix is currently developing a live-action series based on the iconic Persona IP, owned by Sega and Atlus.

Christopher Monfette, known for executive producing Star Trek: Picard and 9-1-1, is taking the helm as executive producer and showrunner. The production will also feature 21 Laps Entertainment, the team behind Stranger Things and The Backrooms, alongside Story Kitchen, which is reportedly tackling the film adaptation of the co-op game Split Fiction.

The Persona series is an acclaimed turn-based RPG franchise developed by Atlus. Since the debut of Revelations: Persona in 1996, the series has spawned six mainline titles and a myriad of spin-offs. Following the teaser for Persona 6 on the 8th and the announcement of the Persona 4 remake, titled Persona 4 Revival, arriving in February 2027, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. As of now, it remains unclear which specific mainline title will serve as the primary setting for this adaptation.

Toru Nakahara, the lead director of video production for Sega, hinted back in 2022 that Persona could follow in the footsteps of Sonic by expanding into film or television. Given Sega’s previous success with the Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movies, this live-action project seems like a natural extension of that strategic vision.

Meanwhile, Netflix has yet to provide an official statement regarding the production of the Persona live-action TV series.
