To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series, Square Enix has announced two new titles and begun pre-orders for new versions of existing games. The newly announced titles are Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate and Dragon Quest Monsters 4: Bianka and Flora in the Withered Land. In addition, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition have commenced today across various stores.

Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is embarking on a new development path, with a revised title and a refreshed logo. Originally slated with the subtitle 'The Chosen's Flame' back in 2021, the game is now being redeveloped from scratch, shifting away from a dark tone towards a brighter, more hopeful narrative. The story follows a protagonist who experiences mysterious dreams. Game designer Yuji Horii and general producer Yosuke Saito shared messages regarding this announcement alongside footage of the game in development. The game's supported platforms are yet to be determined.
