CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has unveiled details for its new 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' expansion, 'Songs of the Past', through a financial earnings call and a special broadcast.

During a broadcast celebrating the 10th anniversary of 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's 'Blood and Wine' expansion on May 28th, CDPR fielded questions and offered some insights into 'Songs of the Past'. Community Manager Laura Bejtlich stated that this new expansion will rival 'Blood and Wine' in scope, featuring an independent region, the Duchy of Toussaint, and a lengthy main story. She also confirmed it will serve as a prologue to the upcoming new title, 'The Witcher 4'.

The broadcast also touched upon Geralt's third sword. Witchers typically carry two swords for different situations: a steel sword for humans and an silver sword for monsters, a signature element of the character. The key art for 'Songs of the Past' depicts Geralt wielding not only his steel and silver swords but also a new one, which is set to play a significant role within the story.

CDPR's financial results call on the 28th also saw questions regarding the new expansion. When asked whether it leans more towards 'Hearts of Stone' or 'Blood and Wine', Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski responded, "Subjectively, it's closer to Blood and Wine." He added, "It depends on how you play, but we're definitely making a proper, large-scale expansion."

'Songs of the Past', co-developed with Fool's Theory, was originally slated for release this year. However, the launch date has been shifted to 2027 to ensure the best possible outcome. CFO Piotr Nielubowicz commented, "For several quarters, we've mentioned that our pipeline includes unannounced projects in the late stages of production, and this expansion is one of them."
