The Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA) has unveiled the revamped structure and the list of participating universities for the upcoming '2025 eSports University League', which kicks off this Saturday the 13th.

The 2025 eSports University League features two titles: League of Legends (Riot Games) and FC Online (NEXON). The national preliminary round, involving universities with seed rights, runs from September 13th (Saturday) to November 2nd (Sunday). Meanwhile, the qualification rounds for non-seeded teams and those eliminated from the preliminaries will take place between September and early November. The grand finale is scheduled for November 22nd (Saturday) and 23rd (Sunday) at the Gwangju eSports Arena in Gwangju.

A total of 29 universities with seed rights will compete in the national preliminaries. Unlike last year’s hybrid O2O (Online to Offline) approach, the organizers have opted for an entirely online format to boost accessibility. League of Legends will be played in a full round-robin format across two groups. FC Online has shifted from a team-based format to an individual competition; the first two weeks will be round-robins, followed by a double-elimination bracket for the final two weeks. The top four universities from each discipline secure a direct ticket to the grand finals, while the remaining seeded teams must battle it out in the qualification rounds against non-seeded contenders.

The participating teams for the national preliminaries are as follows. In League of Legends: Gyeongsang National University, Kyung Hee University, Kwangwoon University, Kookje University, Dongguk University, Dong-A University, Dongyang University, Myongji University, Pusan National University, Sunmoon University, Soongsil University, Shingu College, Yeoju Institute of Technology, Osan University, Chonnam Techno University, Chonnam National University, Chosun College of Science and Technology, Korea Tourism College, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Hallym University, Hansung University, and Hanshin University (22 teams in total). For FC Online: Gangneung-Wonju National University, Kangwon National University, Kyungdong University, Gyeongsang National University, Dankook University, Daekyeung University, Shingu College, Osan University, Woosong Information College, Cheongju University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (11 teams in total).

Teams without seed rights and those eliminated from the preliminaries can still reach the grand finals through regional qualification rounds managed by local agencies. The Seoul/Gangwon region will compete online on November 8th (Saturday) and 9th (Sunday), while the Yeongnam region holds an offline event on September 24th (Wednesday) at the Busan eSports Arena. The Honam region will host a hybrid event from September 19th (Friday) to 20th (Saturday) at the Gwangju eSports Arena, and the Chungcheong region will meet offline on November 8th (Saturday) at the Daejeon eSports Arena. The top university from each region in each game title will advance to the grand finals.
