The 'Heroes of the Storm' (HotS) e-sports tournament is officially set to return at BlizzCon 2026.

Ticketing and detailed schedules for BlizzCon 2026, taking place in Anaheim, California on September 13 next year, have finally been unveiled. The event will feature an opening ceremony, Blizzard Arcade, e-sports fixtures, and the BlizzCon store. All eyes are on the inaugural Blizzard Classic Cup, which includes HotS, 'StarCraft', 'StarCraft 2', and 'Warcraft 3' in its lineup.

The inclusion of HotS in an e-sports capacity has left fans worldwide gobsmacked. You might remember the 'Heroes Global Championship', which was unceremoniously axed by Blizzard in December 2018. It was a cold-hearted affair, with the developer pulling the plug without even a heads-up to the players or staff—a move that drew immense criticism at the time.

Following the shuttering of the official league, the game moved into a maintenance-only phase in 2022, halting all new content development. This mirrors the status of other Classic Cup titles like StarCraft and Warcraft 3. However, even after the official league vanished, the community and dedicated casters kept the spirit alive through various grassroots tournaments.

While some die-hard fans are buzzing with hope for potential updates or a shift in direction, others are more cynical. Many argue that this is merely a one-off event rather than a full-scale resurrection of the HotS e-sports circuit.
