The Hitman TV series, which was announced in 2017 as a co-production between Fox 21 Television Studios and Hulu, has officially been cancelled after nine years. It is disappointing news for fans who were looking forward to seeing the backstory behind the unique visuals and exceptional assassination skills, as well as what creative assassination methods would be featured.

This news was reported by the entertainment outlet 'The Direct'. Derek Kolstad, the writer who was attached to the project, confirmed in a recent interview that the project is "completely dead," making the cancellation official. While Kolstad expressed his affection for the work and the character, saying it feels "like having a dagger stuck in my heart," he explained that the project, which remained in the script stage, needed external support to move forward, which it ultimately failed to secure.

The cancellation of the live-action Hitman drama is attributed to a combination of various factors. First, Fox 21 Television Studios, which was in charge of the original co-production, underwent significant changes, including being absorbed into Disney in 2020 and rebranding as Touchstone Television. It is believed that the momentum for the project weakened during this period of organizational restructuring. Furthermore, Hulu has also faced various challenges regarding management changes and market share since 2017.

Meanwhile, Hitman developer IO Interactive announced 'Project 007', featuring the special agent 007, last September. The CEO of IO Interactive also stated in interviews with foreign media that new information regarding the Hitman series is expected to be released in the near future.
